Light Effects

INTRO
If we were to do a poll among Tibia players – “Do you use Light Effects?” probably most of them would deny it. This is not surprising, since many hunting areas are underground, in dark caves and chambers, where you can search in vain for light. This, in turn, can interfere with day-to-day gameplay, hunting, or questing. Our spells and attacks emit a significant amount of light and color, which, combined with the dark environment, would make the gameplay barely visible.

However, the situation is different in terms of creating decorations and keeping them in the form of screenshots. Here, an important role is played not only by the choice of colors but also by the right light, with which we can emphasize our chosen shade and add a bit of magic to our arrangements! Thanks to the many items available in the game, the so-called light sources, we can make our green gardens start glowing with a green light from afar, and cozy interiors gain a warm yellow glow. With light, we can also change the colors of the objects! We can make blue items turn turquoise – using green light, and make pink items more intense than ever with the help of red tones!
In this article, you’ll learn how to turn lighting effects on or off, what items will help you achieve the desired effect and give your decorations the colors you want, when it’s a good idea to use lighting effects, and when they might not work, and you’ll see plenty of inspiration, colors and magical results that players have achieved in their decorations!
SETTINGS
So how do you set light effects to make them active? It’s easy! Just go to “Settings” in our game client, select the “Graphics” tab, then “Effects” and check the tick next to “Show Light Effects”. Remember to confirm the changes with the “Apply” button!
► Settings ► Graphics ► Effects ► Show Light Effects

When it comes to keeping your decoration in the form of a screenshot, also remember to pay attention to the time of day in the game, as it has a major impact on the exposure of the lights. During the day, they are softer, while at night the colors become much more intense. If you’ve decided to highlight your decorations with light sources, you may want to wait until night falls in Tibia before taking a screenshot.

In the Light Effects settings, 3 more options appear:
AMBIENT LIGHT
Here you can determine the brightness of your ambience. If you prefer to play in a mysterious and dark surrounding, you should set the ambient light slider as low as possible. Players that rather like tosee everything in a bright light, should position the bar at 100%. The default setting is: 25%.

Ambient Light 0%

Ambient Light 100%
LEVEL SEPARATOR
By using this slider, you can determine how dark or bright lower levels will be displayed for your character. The default setting is: 80%.

Level Separator 0%

CLOUD & INDOOR EFFECT
By using this slider, you can determine how dark or bright the inside of houses or shadows of clouds will be displayed for your character. However, the time of day in Tibia is independent of this setting and affects its visibility. The default setting is: 50%.

COLORS
Below you will find an overview of the objects, the so-called “light sources” according to the colors they emit. Each object, along with the lighting, is depicted on the same gray floor, which affects the observer’s perception of the lighting itself. The colors may vary depending on the color of the ground on which they lie.

Reds are great for arrangements with dark themes, associated with vampires or hell. They will perfectly emphasize demonic images created from objects, devilish creatures (Podium of Tnacity or Podium of Vigour).

Both pinks and delicate purples are ideal for highlighting cute and girly decorations. However, this is not the only use you can find for them! After all, cool shades of purple will also work well in spooky decorations, for highlighting mysterious and dark arrangements.

Both yellows and oranges will be perfect for classic decorations resembling normal, everyday rooms – wooden furniture, tables, home accessories. Warm shades will make such arrangements more cozy. The yellow color will also highlight your vaults full of gold and make the glow from your valuables reach even further!

Above we have presented only the most popular and/or effective light sources that produce the best (i.e. most visible) effect. However, there are many more items that emit colors! You can find a full list of “light sources” here!
TIPS & TRICKS
- The color of the light source affects the color of the items around it. So we can manipulate the color scheme and, for example, turn blue items into turquoise ones using green light.
- By choosing the color of the light source identical to the leading color of the decoration – we will enhance it. Using, for example, Imbument Crystal to highlight red objects we will make their color even more intense!
- Each light source, in addition to a specific color, is also characterized by the intensity and range of light. The more intense the light, the further range it has. When decorating, it’s worth considering what items you want to emphasize, as perhaps using the most intense colors will come off worse than repeatedly using items with a smaller range.
- Using two light sources of different colors close together or one on top of the other will make the colors of their glow blend.
LIGHT EFFECTS: HOT OR NOT?
As we mentioned in the introduction to the article – Tibia is usually played without light effects. Therefore, the vast majority of players will simply not appreciate your light-enhanced decorations. However, one should consider their use considering taking a screenshot of the decoration. So let’s try to answer the question of whether it’s worth taking light effects into account when decorating.

---|---|
✴ When your house is located in a city with a bright or medium-bright architecture. The colors created by the light sources will be intensely visible on the bright walls. ✴ When you want to emphasize the dominant colors in your decorations. Using blue light in a decoration where blue is the dominant color will make the shades deeper and more intense. Yellow colors will perfectly accentuate gold elements – so they are ideal for vaults and piles of gold! ✴ When you want to average out the colors in your decorations. The decorative items themselves are often slightly different (some are blue, while others are turquoise) light will make their color more homogeneous. |
As you can see for yourself, unfortunately, there is no clear answer to this. This issue comes down to individual situations, ideas and the color scheme of your decorations. Therefore, when creating a decoration, rely mainly on the color scheme with the light effect option turned off. But don’t forget about it, try to choose the right light sources and put them in invisible places, and then turn on the light effects at night. Only then will you judge whether in this case the decoration looks better with or without them.
GALLERY
In the earlier parts of the article you have already had the opportunity to see quite a few decorations both with and without lighting effects turned on. However, this is only a part of what we would like to show you. Below you will find even more arrangements, where a significant role is played by colors given by light sources. See for yourself how colorful decorations you can create. The intensity of these colors is really impressive!
OUTRO
Light effects in Tibia in our daily game certainly have more downsides than upsides, but we hope that with this article we have introduced you to their great possibilities from the point of view of house decoration. Although one can theorize endlessly on many topics, the best evidence of the results of using light sources is the “before” and “after” decorations we presented using the Light Effects option. Tastes vary, so we leave the evaluation to you, and at the same time, we hope that we have helped to shape your preferences at least a little.
See you in the next article dedicated to the slightly more technical side of decorating!
